Heald’s PAS 68 Road blocker is Six Years Old

At Heald we are justifiably proud of our perimeter security technology range, boasting a number of unique products including the world’s only surface mounted automated sliding bollard system, the shallow mount HT1-Raptor which combines the security of a roadblocker with the flexibility of a bollard and the mighty HT1-Commander PAS 68 Road blocker: the world’s only 30 tonne crash tested roadblocker.

Last week was the sixth anniversary of the HT1-Commander’s crash testing and it still remains today the only road blocker in the world tested to this level. Furthermore the Commander that aced its 30 tonne PAS 68 test had already undertaken two previous tests.

Originally tested to the UK PAS 68 standard against a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 80 kph (50 mph), the second test was to the US ASTM K12 standard, with a 6.8 tonne US spec truck also travelling at 80 kph (50 mph). As the Commander performed so well in these tests Heald took the decision to undertake the next level of PAS 68 testing; the 30 tonne test.

The difference in impact between 7.5 tonnes and 30 tonnes both travelling at 80 kph (50 mph) should not be underestimated. As recorded on the tests the 7.5 tonne truck had impact energy of 1765.1 kJ compared to a massive 7411 kJ for the 30 tonne truck; well over four times the impact.

As you can see in this video the HT1-Commander PAS 68 road blocker stopped the truck completely dead. What’s more, once the sacrificial front plate was removed following the impact, the Commander continued to function. This ensures that the security of your site is maintained at all times.

For the ultimate in automated perimeter security there is only one choice: Heald’s HT1-Commander, still the world’s only 30 tonne crash tested PAS 68 road blocker even six years after its arrival.
