Heald team members celebrate apprenticeship completion

We’re thrilled to announce that two of our team members, Luke and Aimee, have successfully completed their apprenticeships.

Having trained with Heald over the recent years, Luke, who began his apprenticeship in 2018, has passed his Level 3 Electrical Engineering apprenticeship, and Aimee, who started her apprenticeship in 2022, has passed her Level 3 Business Sales Administrator apprenticeship.

At Heald, we take great pride in offering apprenticeship training which will build the foundations for a successful career within the industry. We value retaining apprentices for many years, influencing their professional and personal development, alongside providing individuals with the skills to progress to higher-level courses and further career progression.

Apprenticeship success

Speaking on their recent achievements, Luke and Aimee share their valuable lessons and how their time as an apprentice at Heald has influenced their professional and personal development so far:

Luke – Level 3 Electrical Engineering apprenticeship

Luke, who recently passed his advanced Level 3 Electrical Engineering apprenticeship and has since been promoted to supervisor, says: “My apprenticeship role at Heald consisted of working as part of the wider team and undertaking jobs for senior members of staff. Once I had the training and knowledge, I was then able to take responsibility for tasks which consisted of wiring a full panel from start to finish without supervision and building up cabinets for the panels without supervision.

“Alongside my electrical qualification, whilst completing my apprenticeship at Heald, I could also study for qualifications in maths, ICT and English. This particularly helped my personal growth and learning.”

Luke adds: “Since taking the apprenticeship position at Heald, I have become much better at organising jobs at work, being able to follow instructions thoroughly, and working well in a team. I would describe my apprenticeship at Heald as fun, challenging and interesting.”

Project Manager at Heald, and Luke’s line manager, Archie, comments on Luke’s recent success: “Luke has the commitment needed for a successful career at Heald. He has managed to complete difficult academic work while also having a very busy job. Alongside this, he is a great mentor to the wiring apprentices and is well thought of amongst his peers.

As well as being actively engaged with the local education providers, we welcome a variety of students for work placements across the year to give them first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in a leading manufacturing business such as Heald, supporting our apprenticeship recruitment strategy.

Archie adds: “Luke has an excellent attitude to work and to the company. Recently, Luke has been highly praised for his teaching ability with our work-experience students. He always delivers well and does his very best to create a fun but professional learning experience.”

As a niche manufacturer of market-leading security products, finding individuals with specific skill sets can be challenging. However, our tailored apprenticeship scheme has enabled us to combat this.

Aimee – Level 3 Business Sales Administrator apprenticeship

Aimee, who recently passed her Level 3 Business Sales Administrator apprenticeship, shares: “The apprenticeship at Heald helped with my professionalism and organisational skills and helped me grow a positive attitude. Overall, I would describe my apprenticeship as valuable, informative, and positive!

“I did face a couple of natural challenges along the way, however, these mainly consisted of working in a brand new environment and adapting my skills and experience for an office environment. Learning timekeeping and ensuring time-sensitive responsibilities were carried out efficiently and correctly proved some of my key learnings, as well as learning how to use tools such as Excel, and data validation.”

Aimee’s line manager and Heald’s Sales Supervisor, Vicky, comments: “Aimee has adopted the role of managing the spare parts orders within the sales department. As part of taking on this role, she has worked closely with other departments to help develop and streamline procedures for spare parts.

“Through the apprenticeship, Aimee has grown in her personal development and helped the business growth of this department. Her current role offers a great opportunity for further growth within the business.”

Looking to the future

Looking ahead, Luke and Aimee are dedicated to further expanding their knowledge, maintaining a high standard of work for the company, and consistently striving to perform at their best.

Managing Director, Debbie Heald MBE, comments: “We’re so proud to see these two individuals achieve such great success after all their hard work. Luke and Aimee both work extremely hard and continue to push their abilities every day. They carry their responsibilities with pride and have made a strong place for themselves within the wider Heald team. I look forward to seeing their knowledge and personal development continue to thrive in their new roles and, importantly, in their long-term career.

“We look forward to continuing to support individuals choosing to enter the world of work through our apprenticeship schemes.”
