Utilising Fixed Bollards: Applications and Benefits

At Heald, we offer a range of perimeter security solutions, all made bespoke to fit specified project and safety requirements. As well as our automatic and electromechanical security systems, we also offer fixed bollard options.

Choosing the right type of protective system is very important – this can depend on the project’s needs and the extent of safety requirements. Our fixed bollards provide a static physical barrier that helps prevent unauthorised vehicle access to a vulnerable, public, high-profile or busy space. They are commonly used to protect buildings, storefronts, pedestrian zones, and other high-risk areas from the threat of unanticipated vehicle attacks.

Our fixed bollard options

Fixed Matador Bollard

Our Fixed Matador Bollard system is a great option for projects which require no excavation; the bollard is simply bolted to the road. Alternatively, it can be installed flush with a 110 mm excavation.

The Fixed Matador Bollard is available as a unit with either three or four static bollards mounted on a baseplate or can be combined with our modular Matador extension plates to add as many additional fixed bollards as needed.

The Fixed Matador layout allows for constant pedestrian access and provides a subtle and stylish stainless steel design, making it an ideal option for locations with modern architecture. Moreover, we can provide various cover types and base plates to blend in with the existing landscape.

Sparta 48 & 80 Static Bollards

Heald’s Sparta Static Bollards offer a simple PAS68-tested security option, suitable for many locations. Available in two security levels, the Sparta 48 has been crash tested to halt a 7.5-tonne truck travelling at 48 kph (30 mph), while the Sparta 80 halted a 7.5-tonne truck at 80 kph (50 mph).

The static bollards can be used as a standalone unit or as part of an array to protect a wider area. Providing a range of installation flexibility, our Sparta bollards can be installed around a corner, in an arc or even on a slope where required. Similar to the Fixed Matador bollard, the Sparta collection can be provided with stylish covers, unique patterns and LED lighting.

Mantis 64 & 80 Static Bollards

Heald’s Mantis Static Bollard is available in various security levels to cater to individual sites’ needs.

Boasting the quality of requiring minimal foundation depth, the Mantis 64 and 80 models are part of Heald’s sleek and stylish static bollard system. These bollards present an excellent choice for sites requiring a high level of protection while also prioritising seamless integration with modern architectural aesthetics.

Surface and shallow mount options

Surface and shallow mount products are perfect for where a deep mount installation is not possible. Our range of fixed bollards provides an extremely quick and efficient installation – ideal for short-term and permanent retrofit projects.

Apex Static Bollard

Our Apex Static Bollard provides a flexible shallow mount solution that can easily adapt to a number of locations – particularly heavily pedestrianised areas. This fixed bollard has been designed to enable simple and fast installation in either a straight or curved array, perfect for protecting cycle paths and busy inner-city roads. The circular bollard is also suitable for various aesthetic finishes and covers, providing a seamless safety option to blend in with various environments.

 Synergy

Having developed the Synergy Bollard System to secure bridges against the threat of unanticipated vehicle attacks, our Synergy security system can now secure many locations with ultra-shallow excavation needs, making it an ideal option for inner cities, footways, and cyclist zones. The product consists of nine fixed bollards on individual baseplates, which are firmly bolted together without the need for any pinning.

An expansion joint is also available for areas where infrastructure such as manhole covers might impact traditional bollards being in place. The product has been crash-tested with an array of nine interconnected bollards, with the design allowing for additional bollards to be added to expand the protected area.

In spaces where deep-mount excavation isn’t feasible due to underground infrastructure, Heald’s Apex and Synergy Bollards offer the perfect solution for retrofit projects. These bollards require no pinning and minimal excavation, making them highly suitable for said scenarios.

Fixed bollards can offer many benefits, including helping control vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow, creating safer walkways or restricted zones and improving overall safety and organisation in a public space or event. Our fixed bollards are designed to withstand major impacts from vehicles, and having been tested to IWA 14, ASTM and PAS68 standards, we can assure we are providing the highest-quality protection and durability.

At Heald, we specialise in crafting custom designs tailored to specific site requirements and challenges which may occur. Whether a project requires fixed permanent bollards or temporary automatic systems, our bespoke approach involves collaborating on projects from start to finish, ensuring the delivery of high-level, personalised perimeter security solutions.
