International Women’s Day at Heald

As International Women’s Day approaches, we want to highlight how women at Heald not only play a vital role in the day to day operations of the business but in ensuring that people across the world can safely go about their daily lives due to our range of products installed globally.

Approximately 35% of the team is made up of women, who work across a range of functions within the business including management, administration, sales, technical and operations.

Whether it be liaising with customers, preparing proposals, technical documentation or managing the outputs of the manufacturing team, our female colleagues are crucial to the ongoing success of Heald as a whole.

Opportunities for growth

As a manufacturer of niche, market-leading security products, it’s crucial that we develop the talent within the organisation. Over the years individuals have taken advantage of ongoing professional development, undertaking NVQ qualifications funded by Heald to enable them to progress both professionally and personally.

Currently, we are supporting one of our colleagues who joined us after university on a graduate sales program, who has since progressed to provide more technical support to our customers. As such we are guiding her along a career graded progression route which will lead to a role title of Technical Sales Engineer, this will entail a more rounded and practical understanding of our products and services so that she will be able to better support our sales and after-sales services.

Supporting the next generation of female talent in manufacturing

Driven by Heald’s Managing Director, Debbie Heald MBE, who received an MBE for her services to export and women in STEM, Debbie is passionate about showcasing the opportunities available to women in manufacturing and works with a range of organizations including Hornsea School and Language College, as Employer liaison and also Ron Dearing UTC to showcase the opportunities and progression paths available.

Commenting on her support for International Women’s Day and Women in STEM, Debbie said “The team of individuals I work with at Heald play an important role in ensuring not only that things run smoothly within the business but that our distribution partners and customers receive excellent levels of support which is evidenced through our Platinum Award for Customer Satisfaction. I look forward to continuing to support both the talent within the organisation along with young women considering their career paths. Of course, we would love to see women joining our manufacturing teams too”.
