Managing Director Recognised in STEM Volunteering Role

We are proud to announce that our Managing Director, Debbie Heald MBE has completed 50 hours of volunteering to support the STEM Ambassador Programme. STEM Ambassadors are volunteers who have jobs related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They promote STEM careers across the UK and inspire the next generation to get involved in the subject areas.

Debbie put herself forward for the STEM Ambassador Programme to engage more school leavers in the local community to consider a career with Heald. Debbie’s volunteering role has included school visits and aspirational dinners. During these events, Debbie has promoted the career opportunities that are available to young people at Heald, why they are different and why they are exciting. Heald have also supported Hornsea School and Language College with their F24 challenge, which allows students to build an electric car to race at Greenpower Events.

Working closely with Hornsea School and Language College, Heald welcomed a group of students to the office to demonstrate what goes on behind the scenes of making the products. Heald also showcased some of their crash test videos which have gone viral!

Shortly after the tour, Heald provided two students from Hornsea the opportunity to undertake work experience placements, which saw Holly work in our CAD department and Ethan across a variety of roles at the workshop. You can read more about their journey here.

As well as offering careers in STEM, Heald are a huge advocate of the apprenticeship scheme and provide these in several areas of the company. Heald have seen many apprentices complete their apprenticeships, who have then been offered a full-time position at the company afterwards.

Commenting on completing her volunteering and supporting young people, Debbie Heald MBE added: “It is essential for students to see what career opportunities are available in STEM subjects as there is so much available, especially at Heald. I have enjoyed talking about my experience and about our company, it feels very rewarding when young students find it interesting. I am proud that Heald are able to offer jobs to local people that can provide them with a lifelong career.”
