Perimeter security safeguards York, including iconic Shambles

In a bustling city like York, ensuring public safety amidst increasing foot traffic and urban development is paramount. As a leading manufacturer and installer of hostile vehicle mitigation systems, we recently undertook a significant project to install perimeter security measures across various locations within the York public realm.

Client requirements and solution

Our client, City of York Council and civil engineering organisation CR Reynolds, had specific requirements regarding foundation depth and the complexity of installation on diverse gradients and terrains. To meet these challenges, we recommended our Matador product line, known for its durability and effectiveness. The Matador line, featuring electromechanical bollards, was strategically chosen for installation in several key locations across York.

Heald is managing the installation, with CR Reynolds overseeing the groundwork.

The installations include:

Additionally, installations are planned for High Petergate and Lendal in the near future. For clarification, the York project is ongoing, and some locations are yet to be completed.

Why Matador bollards?

Matador bollards were selected as the best-suited product for the project due to its ability to meet the unique requirements of the sites, including depth restrictions, varied terrain, and the need for bespoke designs. The decision was reached after extensive consultations involving consultants, the council, CR Reynolds, and designers.

Project Impact

We believe the installations seamlessly integrate with York’s aesthetics while safeguarding its legacy and residents. The bollards serve as a visual deterrent against vehicle-borne threats and enhance the overall urban environment. Proactively implementing high-quality security systems ensures public safety while preserving the city’s historic charm.

Preparing for the future and preserving heritage

As legislative changes, such as the impending ‘Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill‘ draw closer, we emphasise the importance of proactive preparation. Businesses, including high-street retailers, operating in areas like York need to reassess their safety protocols to comply with these regulations and enhance public safety.

At Heald, we also understand that safeguarding our shared heritage goes beyond protecting people; it’s about preserving the essence of historic towns and cities for future generations. Our perimeter protection solutions prioritise the balance between security and aesthetics, and our approach involves carefully selecting security measures that seamlessly blend into the historical surroundings, respecting each location’s unique architecture and character. Interested in securing your location with robust perimeter protection solutions?
