Heald’s multi award winning sliding bollard system, the Matador is a patent protected security system, crash tested to different IWA standards. The Matador has revolutionised the perimeter security industry and has been recognised by numerous awards for innovation.
The Matador is designed and proven to protect underground utilities during its IWA crash test. During crash testing, not only did the sliding bollard system arrest the test vehicle with a zero penetration rating, it continued to function following the impact with no repairs.
The design of the Matador allows for constant pedestrian access, even when closed. The Matador’s sliding feature allows access for permitted vehicles, such as service or emergency vehicles. The Matador features a completely flat surface when recessed, meaning there are no trip or trap hazards, making the system extremely safe. All moving parts are visible at all times, minimising the chance of accidental damage.
The sliding security system can be installed in locations where even a shallow mount is impossible, due to its ability to be surface mounted bollards, giving the Matador a huge advantage over traditional security bollards. This means the Matador range is ideal for temporary events and can simply be bolted down to a suitable base and removed when necessary. Alternatively, the Matador range can be installed flush with the surface, requiring a very shallow foundation depth.
The system is also available with a variety of different covers to blend in with any location, from historic surroundings to modern office blocks. We can also provide an architectural paving tray system as an option, which allows most stone and granite sets systems to be added to the Matador base, allowing seamless integration into the streetscape.
We currently have two different Matador ranges available, please see below for more details.

The Electro Mechanical Matador is an environmentally friendly product which has a variety of added benefits.
The HT3-EM Matador has been dual crash tested to IWA 14-1 standards. The HT3-EM Matador was firstly crash tested to halt an 18 tonner N3C vehicle travelling at 64 kph (40 mph). After the impact, the HT3-EM Matador continued to function, offering on-going protection and ensuring emergency services have continued access. The HT3-EM Matador has also been IWA crash tested to halt a 7.2 tonne truck travelling at 50 mph (80 kph). This product also holds a CPNI Vehicle Attack Delay Standard (VADS) rating.
One of the benefits of the EM Matador is that it requires approximately 80% less electricity to operate compared to standard hydraulic units. It only requires a small cabinet to house controls, reducing the carbon and space footprint.
There is no need for hydraulic runs or large power units as the Electro Mechanical Matador requires just one single phase 13 AMP supply to run, therefore the EM Matador has lower energy costs. The motor is only 0.37 KW and is IP69 rated. This is housed within the Matador unit.
The Electro Mechanical Matador can also operate from a generator where no power supply is available or for temporary events management, making it the ideal rated solution for temporary or permanent installs.
The HT3 EM Matador 4 and 6 are supplied in two sections, bolted in the middle. This allows for easy handling procedures, shipping and also any road camber adjustments.
The Manual Matador range is a bollard system which can consist of either one manual moving bollard, two manual moving bollards or four manual moving bollards, depending on your specifications.
The Manual Matador 3 is built for areas which only require a small opening, whereas our Manual Matador 6 is suitable for a wide opening for large vehicles, or to accommodate tight turning circles. As well as allowing vehicular access, the Matador allows constant pedestrian access, even when closed.
The HT3-Manual Matador 4 & 6 are split and supplied in two sections, whereas our HT2-Manual Matador 3 is supplied in one whole section.
The Manual Matador represents a perfect range of products if you are looking for a more cost-effective solution with design features similar to our automated Matador.
Our Manual Matadors are ideal for locations where no power supply is available and are easily operated. This means that our Manual Matadors require no large cabinets to house electronic controls.
Consists of a baseplate with two fixed bollards either side of one central bollard.
Available as part of our HT2 range.
