Viper

Heald’s Viper is a high security roadblocker, rated to 50mph (80kph) with a foundation as shallow as 380mm. An imposing figure in the roadblocker market.

The Viper system is a shallow mount high security roadblocker which due to its ingenious folding skirt design only requires a foundation depth of 380mm, dependent on drive variant. Standing at 1050mm tall when fully raised, finished with bright yellow and black stripes for high visibility as standard (other colours available).

Tested to both PAS68 and ASTM standards the Viper roadblocker halted a 7.5-tonne truck travelling at a speed of 50mph (80kph) and continued to function afterwards. The Viper was tested against an N3 vehicle, which are difficult to stop due to their size in comparison to other vehicles.

In house testing at Heald’s factory has guaranteed that the Viper has a proven reliability, with a 200,000-cycle test report for hydraulic & electromechanical driven products.

Available in three different operational variants, Hydraulic, Electromechanical and Manual.

The unique wedge & folding skirt design means the Viper requires a very shallow foundation depth of 380mm to 460mm dependent on drive variant, making the product fast and easy to install.

Designed with operation and safety in mind, the Viper is topped with a Durbar plate in aid of reducing slip and trips of any personnel walking across the product, additionally the slotted front plate is movable upon installation minimizing the gap between the rising wedge and base plates.

Protective sacrificial skirts for safety and reliability reduce debris collection and specially designed internal linkage bars ensure hydraulic and electromechanical drive units remain protected in the event on a crash situation.

Heald offer three operational variants of the Viper product, two of which champion Heald’s commitment to sustainability see these below:

The Electromechanical Viper

A single electrically operated Viper requires just one three phase 20amp supply and can be up to 50% more efficient than hydraulic roadblocker systems.

There is also no requirement for hydraulic oil, eliminating the risk of spillages or environmental contamination.

An additional benefit is the elimination of hydraulic hoses which allows the roadside cabinet to be housed further away from the Viper without the need for long hydraulic hose runs which can be difficult to install and replace.

The roadside cabinet itself can also be smaller because the Viper does not require a bulky HPU, so less materials are required resulting in a smaller carbon footprint. This is also of benefit to the built environment as smaller cabinets are more easily concealed.

The Manually Operated Viper

This requires no power supply so is ideal for remote locations or for those areas where running electrical supplies would be prohibitive due to cost.

This is also cost-effective, efficient and an ideal way of installing high security physical protection measures whilst reducing initial project and running costs.

Heald design all their products to be long lasting and enable the easy replacement of serviceable components. We offer support and maintenance packages to all customers to ensure that the consistently high levels of service and protection you expect can be maintained by our specialist team of engineers giving you peace of mind that your security investment is in good hands.

    Electromechanical Viper – 7.5T @ 50mph (80kph) View Case Study

The World’s first Electromechanical Roadblocker that’s shallow mount, crash rated to 50mph (80kph) and has a raise height of 1050mm.

    Drive Operation:

Electromechanical Drive (battery backup and manual override supplied as standard).

The electromechanical Viper is available as either an array or a singular unit. Due to the EM drive unit the Viper uses less electricity to operate and requires a small cabinet, which can be positioned at a greater distance from the products than its hydraulic counterpart, reducing the carbon footprint & spatial footprint.

The electromechanical Viper can run off a three phase 20amp supply for both standard and EFO (Emergency Fast Operation) versions.

    Standard operation speed: 6 seconds

    EFO operation speed: 1.5 seconds

    Performance Ratings:

    ASTM: ASTM 2656-07 M50:P1

    PAS68: PAS68:2010 V/7500[N3]/80/90: 0/24.6

Hydraulic Drive (manual override supplied as standard).

The Hydraulic Viper is available as either an array or a singular unit.

EFO (Emergency Fast Operation) is also available via an accumulator system.

    Standard operation speed: 6 seconds

    EFO operation speed: 1.5 seconds

    Drive Operation:

Manual Drive, Raised and lowered using a hand drill.

The Manual Viper is available as either an array or a singular unit with each blocker operated independently from one another. Ideal for those locations or sites with no power available or low frequency usage requirements.

    Standard operation speed: 75 seconds
