Access Control Integration

Heald Automated HVM Barriers can be integrated with various Access Control Technologies to suit a wide variety of security requirements.

Access control options are broadly divided into 3 types of control:

  • Local control
  • Remote Authorisation
  • Local Authorisation

Each of the following sections focuses on one of the control types listed above, however HVM solutions can blend different types to suit the requirements of the customer. The list of options shown is not exhaustive so please contact a Heald representative to discuss your requirements in further detail.

Local Access Control is defined by the requirement of the presence of a Guard within the immediate vicinity of the Heald HVM Barrier to verify the identity of the person(s) wishing to access the secured area.

This allows the Guard to check credentials, paperwork, etc. which can verify the identity of the person(s) and means that the Guard forms a crucial part of the security of the site. Adequate training must be undertaken to qualify the Guard for this role. Guard operation can be with/without induction loops (usually guard operation can be without loops making the guard solely responsible).

It is important to have line of sight of the HVM product to ensure the safety of person(s) and vehicles within the vicinity of the HVM Barrier.

Local Control Options:

  • Pendant within a local control column or small side cabinet
  • Console housed within a local control booth
  • Key switch fitted to the side of the cabinet positioned in close proximity of the HVM barrier

Remote Authorisation Access Control requires the addition of an intercom system, either audio-visual or audio only. This allows the Guard to be positioned in a remote location (HVM Control Room, CCTV Office, Reception Area, etc). From this position, the Guard can review the credentials of the person(s) wishing to access the secured area and either allow or deny entry. As with Local Control, adequate training must be undertaken to qualify the Guard for this role.

Additional infrastructure is required to relay signals to and from the HVM Barrier location. This could be dedicated cables, network connection points, Wi-Fi, or 4G/5G depending on the system specified and distances between the HVM Barrier and the Control Room.

Additional equipment will also be required local to the HVM Barrier to ensure the safety of the vehicle passing through. (Induction Loops, Optional Photocells, etc).

Remote Authorisation Options:

  • HVM products linked to an intercom which feeds back to a control room for authorisation, Heald would recommend CCTV to accompany the Intercom system
  • Heald Hydra Access control system

Local Authorisation removes the need for a Guard to be present. Security credentials will be presented by the person(s) wishing to gain access to the secured area to an electronic system. There are many options available, some of which are detailed below.

Additional equipment may be required to house or support the chosen security equipment (Access Control Post, Mounting Bracket or Pole, etc.) Heald can supply this equipment in a variety of finishes and styles to blend in with the aesthetics of the site.

As with Remote Authorisation, additional safety equipment is required local to the HVM Barrier to ensure the safety of the vehicle passing through. (Induction Loops, Optional Photocells, etc).

Local Authorisation Options:

  • Keypad entry – Fixed to a wall or post
  • RFID Vehicle Tag System (Radio Frequency Identification)
  • ANPR system (Automatic Number Plate Recognition)
  • Wireless Fob
  • Push Button Fob
  • Mobile Security ID APP
