Heald Directors Cycle to Mont Saint-Michel For Charity
Last year, our directors cycled across Europe for two charities. This year, they are taking on a slightly different challenge in the hopes of raising more funds and we hope you can support them too!
The charity we are supporting is Emmaus. Emmaus is a homeless charity which offers meaningful work and a sense of belonging to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Their communities offer a home for as long as someone needs it and help people get back into work, with 79% of companions saying that working and having something to do every day has been the most beneficial part of their experience.
Emmaus companions get their own room, food, clothing and a small weekly allowance. In return, Emmaus ask that companions do 40 hours of work a week (or as much time as possible) in the community’s social enterprise, they behave respectfully to one another and they sign off all benefits.
The charity are currently supporting more than 750 formerly homeless people.
Why did we choose this charity?
Visiting large cities throughout the UK, especially in the cold winter months, we found it heartbreaking to see how some people have to live. We wanted to try and help in some way that would give real prospects for a long-term change in homeless people’s lives.
Emmaus provides excellent support for the homeless and strives to help individuals make changes to improve their lives, which we fully support.
Where and when?
The cycle will take place towards the end of April and we are starting our journey from Portsmouth, where we will take a ferry across to France, then cycle to Mont Saint-Michel. The cycle is approximately 125 miles which will be a challenge, but we are ready to take it on. We are hoping to raise at least £1,500 for Emmaus and would appreciate any donations, no matter how big or small.
